The Sensory Toolkit: Building Calm at Home

When we first started our journey, "sensory overload" was just a phrase. Then I saw it in my child's eyes—the flicker of panic when the blender roared or the tag on a shirt scratched. We realized our home wasn't just a living space; it needed to be a sanctuary.

We started small. We didn't renovate. We adjusted.

  1. Dimmer Switches: The harsh overhead lights were the first to go. Soft, warm lamps became our best friends.
  2. The "Crash" Corner: We filled a corner with bean bags and heavy pillows. When emotions ran high, this became the safe landing zone.
  3. Visual Schedules: Uncertainty breeds anxiety. A simple picture chart of the day’s routine brought a surprising amount of peace.

Remember, you don't need expensive equipment. You need to observe. Watch what calms your child and do more of that. It's not about perfection; it's about peace.
